Average Costs and Timescale

Acting for Employer

If acting for a single Employer in a Tribunal claim by a single Employee for unfair or wrongful dismissal our hourly rates range from £175 per hour plus VAT for a paralegal or trainee to £285 per hour plus VAT for a partner. For a case proceeding through all stages to a final one day hearing in our experience the likely costs can range between £5,000 and £8,000 plus VAT.

Please note these are only average estimates and actual costs for any given case are dependent on the complexity of the matter. A bespoke estimate will be given on our receiving instructions and further details to enable an assessment of the complexity of the matter to be made.

Additional Fees

Counsel’s fees, if instructed, of £1,500 – £2,500 plus VAT.

We can not be specific about how long your case might take to be finally resolved as this is dependent upon a number of variable factors, some of which are outside our control, such as Tribunal listing. However in our experience the likely length of time if the claim settles through conciliation is 3- 4 months. If thereafter a claim is issued in the Tribunal it can take between 6 and 12 months from issue to a final hearing. We can provide more accurate information once instructed and as your claim progresses.

For a case proceeding through all stages to a final one-day hearing the likely costs can range between £5,000 and £8,000 plus VAT

Other Pricing Options

We can also offer to act on a Damages Based Agreement (DBA) where you would pay an agreed percentage of your damages for our fees inclusive of VAT but you would still be required to pay  costs to external bodies for example Counsel’s fees. A DBA is subject to our assessment of the prospects of success of your claim and so this would have to be discussed in more detail upon instruction.
