Fraser Dawbarns were delighted to return to the Tydd St. Giles Golf and Country Club on Friday 13th August 2021 for our eighth Annual Charity Golf Day. After the uncertainty caused by the pandemic led to the cancellation of our golf day in 2020, it was good to be back. The golf competition is our primary fundraising event of the year and for this reason, it is a significant event in our social calendar, one which we are committed to and passionate about holding every year.

This year our firm’s chosen charity is The Purfleet Trust, a Kings Lynn based charity who raise money for local homeless and vulnerable people. Like most charities, they rely on the generosity of the public to fund their service, therefore we knew this charity would benefit greatly from the money we would raise. You can find out more about The Purfleet Trust and how you can help through their website – https://www.purfleettrust.org.uk/

After a damp run up to the event, the weather thankfully brightened up on the day. However, a strong wind was present across the course making playing conditions slightly more challenging for players, but this did not impact their determination and high spirits.

Neil John, a partner at Fraser Dawbarns has an active involvement in the Tydd St. Giles Golf Club,

“I joined the club in 2007 and served as the Club Captain in 2015 and 2016. I instituted the Fraser Dawbarns Charity Golf Day in 2012 and it has run every year except 2020. We have been raising money for various charities including MacMillan and SSAFA, but more recently Sports Connections Foundation and now The Purfleet Trust.”

As an avid golfer, Neil prides himself on the organisation and planning of the day.

44 golfers participated, across the 11 teams which were competing for an array of prizes, including longest drive on the 13th hole and nearest the pin on the 8th and 16th holes. Prizes are also presented to teams finishing in first, second and third places. The John Aitken Memorial Trophy is also up for winning. John Aitken is a much missed former Partner at Fraser Dawbarns, who had been heavily involved in previous Charity Golf Days at the firm.

The day started with a bacon roll on arrival at registration to fuel the 18-hole course, taking almost 5 hours from the shotgun start to finish.

On return, players were greeted at the clubhouse with a barbeque meal. This was then followed by the announcement of the prize draw and raffle winners which were purchased before the game. In addition to, the winners of the Nearest the Pin on the 8th hole, Nearest the Pin on the 16th hole and Longest Drive on the 13th hole challenges. Each of these won a £50 American Golf Voucher and a pack of Srixon Z Star golf balls.

The winner of the longest drive was presented to Ben Skipper.

Nearest the Pin on the 8th hole was achieved by Darryl Percy.

Lastly, Nearest the Pin on the 16th hole was secured by Andy Betts.

Following this, the much-anticipated competition winners were announced.

In third place, we had the team from Barclays consisting of Jamie Biggadike, Barry Ellis, David Norris and Nigel Killock with an impressive score of 87.

In second place, with a notable score of 90 points, were Gordon Varley, Sion Lewis, Noah Rogerson and Farrukah Bajwa form Ramsay Healthcare and the Fitzwilliam Hospital.

The Allen Thomas & Co team, Michael Crisp, Ben Skipper, Harry Lankfer and Josh Ring came in first place, with a spectacular score of 95.

Despite the windy conditions the scores were exceptional and extremely tight. The remarkable scores from this year’s event have set a high bar for those joining in 2022.

To finish the day, the auction was held, where auctioneer Marcus Hawkins kindly gave up his time to raise money for the items that had been kindly donated. On behalf of Fraser Dawbarns we would like to personally thank Middleton Steakhouse, What the Hoot, Morton & Hall, Ian Edrupt, Mark Cooper, Trevor Hunt, Sandringham Estate, Tydd St. Giles Golf Course and Snettisham Park for their generosity.

Despite holding the event in such unprecedented times, we are delighted by the success of the event. Overall, we raised a grand total of £1834.90 for The Purfleet Trust. We recognise that the Charity Golf Day would not be possible without the generosity and participation of everyone who attended, so a huge thank you to all of you.

Another big thank you to Neil John who provided the golfing knowledge and organisation of the event. As well as Sam Bodger our firms Marketing Manager who organised his final golf day as we say farewell to him after 4 years at Fraser Dawbarns.

We look forwards to seeing you all at the 2022 Charity Golf Day.
