£50,000 personal injury settlement obtained for injured cyclist

Neil John, a specialist personal injury solicitor at Fraser Dawbarns, has obtained a £50,000 injury claim settlement for a Cambridgeshire cyclist who was knocked off his carbon racing bike by a car which emerged from a side road. His injuries included a fractured collarbone and ribs. His high-end cycle was also destroyed and being able to replace it formed part of the claim.

Neil comments: “Government statistics show that between 2004 and 2023, pedal cycle traffic in the UK increased by 39%. Unfortunately, thousands of cyclists are involved in road traffic collisions each year, and reports show that between 2019 and 2023, 82% of the cyclists who were either killed or seriously injured were male. The three most common contributory factors cited in relation to accidents involving cyclists were “failed to look properly”, followed by a failure “to judge another person’s path or speed” and “driver or rider careless, reckless or in a hurry”. Whatever the cause of the incident, it is likely that a cyclist is going to be more seriously injured than the driver of a larger vehicle that collides with them. Provided the incident is not entirely the fault of the cyclist, bringing a personal injury claim will help to ensure that someone is not out of pocket as a result.”
