Injury settlement obtained after holiday home decking collapsed

Neil John, who heads the personal injury team at Fraser Dawbarns, has settled the claims of a couple who were injured when the decking on the mobile home they had rented for their holiday collapsed. Fortunately, their injuries were not long-term and so the claims were relatively modest. However, anyone letting out holiday premises has a duty of care to those who rent from them, and ensuring that items like decking are fit for purpose is an important part of that. Where something like this occurs it is possible to bring what is known as a 'public liability' claim and the property owner's insurers should cover the cost of the claim.

Neil adds: "Whenever an injury is incurred on holiday, it is always worth seeking a legal opinion, so long as the injury was not entirely your own fault. If you are injured abroad then the simplest way to get appropriate compensation may depend on the country in which the incident occurred, and whether you were in a hotel, renting a villa privately or on a package deal, arranged totally through one company. We will be able to advise you on the best way forward."
