Local Solicitors welcome Government proposal to ban referral fees for Personal Injury Claims

Leading regional Solicitors, Fraser Dawbarns LLP, have welcomed the news that the Government is to ban referral fees for Personal Injury claims. Steve McGregor, Head of the litigation team and based in Wisbech, said “As a firm, we have never paid a referral fee for any personal injury claim and see no need to do so. We pride ourselves on delivering an efficient and effective local service, which meets the needs of our clients.”

Neil John, one of the founders of the BMF Biker Legal Line which helped motorcyclists with their legal issues between 2001 and 2009, is also very pleased at hearing the news. He said “What many people fail to realise, until they are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, is where the referral fees go. They certainly do not go to lawyers. It is usually paid by the relevant Law Firm to the insurance broker, or Claims Management company, who sends the injured persons details to the firm. The most recent one I have seen was for the sum of £750 + VAT.”

“Often, the injured person is in no position to consider who they want to represent them as they have just been involved in an accident. Everybody should have the choice of who they want to act for them.”

So if you’ve had an accident, either on the road, at work or in a public place, exercise your freedom of choice and call Fraser Dawbarns on 0845 519 6456 or email info@fraserdawbarns.com
