Firm’s Special Luncheon Raises Funds for Cancer Charity
Staff at Fraser Dawbarns office in Wisbech held a special luncheon on Friday 30th September to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The luncheon was held on the same day as the Macmillan Coffee Morning, the charity’s largest annual fundraising event.
Organiser Doreen Newland explained “For the past nine years the firm has taken an active part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning. For the first couple of years it was a biscuit and cake with coffee or tea served at the work desk. This worked well but we all wanted to do something together so the idea of the “Luncheon” was born.”
Doreen continued “At first we just served sandwiches, cakes and pies and drinks, with unused cakes being auctioned off. We then progressed to offering hot food, salads as well as sandwiches, cakes and pies. Today the lunch includes more exotic dishes such as a pot of Chinese curry prepared by Practice Manager, Adrian Baker.”
The event was started after a number of staff members received treatment for cancer and realised that without the research into new treatments, they may not have recovered from the disease.
On the same day as the luncheon, receptionist Kelly-Anne McGuinness runs a raffle across all four of the firm’s offices to make sure as much money as possible is collected for such a good cause.
Each year the money raised from the event is combined with funds from the St Mary Mothers Union who hold a traditional Macmillan Coffee Morning on the same day.
This year the firm and St Mary Mothers Union raised a grand total of £680.
Kelly-Anne said “I would like thank all those members of staff who helped prepare such a great lunch and raise more money for such a vital charity”
